Professor Dr. Madan Dahal,
Team Leader
Prof. Dahal is a
senior economist will lead the team. Prof. Dahal
holds a Ph. D. Degree in Economics from University
of Bombay, India in 1983. He taught Government
Finance at Tribhuvan University (TU), Kirtipur for
over thirty-eight years until his retirement in June
2009. He provided guidance to students aspiring for
the Degree of Ph. D. in Economics at TU and
undertook several research project works at both
national and international levels.
In recent years
Dr. Dahal is actively engaged in and attached to a
number of academic and professional organizations,
which include: Member, National Development Council
at National Planning Commission (NPC/GON); Member,
Revenue Advisory Board, Ministry of Finance (MOF/GON);
Chairman, Mega Bank Nepal Ltd. (MBNL); and
President, Nepal Economic Association (NEA).
In the
past, Prof. Dahal served a number of organizations
at various capacities. The major assignments
comprise:

Dr. Dahal has had
the opportunity to work as a consultant economist
with various international agencies including ADB,
UNDP, ILO, The World Bank, DANIDA, FINNIDA, USAID,
FES/Germany, IDE/Japan, SAARC and SANEI. He worked
in Sri Lanka for Asian Development Bank as
International Consultant on Public Finance
Management during 2004-2006. Prof. Dahal, a
vegetarian and widely travelled person, has
authored, co-authored and edited 15 books on
economics and allied areas to his credit published
from India, Japan and Nepal and some of the
publications are prescribed in the curricula of
Economics at TU.

Mr. Nandakaji Budhathoki,
Economist/Team Member
Mr
Budhathoki completed his MA in economics from
Central Development of economics from Tribhuvan
University Nepal in 2004.Besides that, he did his
MSC in development and resources economics from the
Norwegian university of life science, Norway. He
also took major courses in health economics and
policy analysis from the University of Oslo.
Currently, he is an economist in IIDS.
He has more than 3 years teaching experiences of
teaching macro and micro economics both graduate and
undergraduate level in Nepal. He has actively
involved some of the projects of IIDS as a team
member since he joined this institution including
its flagship Publication “Nepal Economic Outlook”
His area of interest includes health economics,
environmental economics, micro credit etc.

Mr. Manbar Singh Khadka,
Economist/Team Member
Mr. Khadka received an M.S. in Agricultural &
Resource Economics from the University of Maryland
at College Park, USA and Bachelors in Economics from
Wabash College in Indiana, USA. His areas of
interest lie in development economics, environmental
economics, and macroeconomics.
His research on Climate Change and Food Security,
Child Labor and Microfinance have been published
both nationally and internationally. He has worked
as a lead author of Nepal Economic Outlook 2011-12,
a flagship publication of IIDS.

Mr.
Ashwasthama Pokhrel, Field Coordinator/Data Analyst
Mr Pokhrel
has a Bachelors Degree in Law from Tribhuvan
University. He started his career as Field
Enumerator at Land Resource Mapping Project (LRMP)
in 1980. He joined IDS in 1984 as Data Processor.
Specializing in field management and data
management, he has taken part in more than 50
socio-economic research works. He has travelled as a
field surveyor in 72 out of a total of districts of
the country.

Mr.
Shankar Aryal, Project Coordinator
Mr Aryal is a research fellow in IIDS. He has
completed his MA in Political Science from
Tribhuvan University; Mr Aryal started his career as
District Census Officer at the Central Bureau of
Statistics (CBS). Specializing in time-series data
management, he has worked in more than 60
socio-economic research works. In addition to a
number of trainings, he has participated in several
national, regional and international workshops and
seminars.
